Banco Patagonia has launched a solution to accept Pix payments through WAPA, its payment tool, which will allow Argentine businesses to receive payments from Brazilian tourists via QR codes, thus promoting financial inclusion and regional interoperability.
This proposal is the result of an alliance between Banco Patagonia, the technology company COELSA, and Banco do Brasil, which integrated their systems to enable cross-border payments, leveraging the secure and interoperable infrastructure of the payment ecosystem.
With this addition, WAPA expands its payment options: in addition to credit and debit cards and QR codes, businesses can now accept payments via Pix, the instant payment system developed by the Central Bank of Brazil, which has over 170 million users.
The process for Argentine businesses is similar to a bank transfer: a QR code is generated from the WAPA screen, which the customer scans from their Brazilian banking app or digital wallet.
The business can display the purchase amount in either pesos or reais, facilitating the tourist's experience.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the system allows Brazilian tourists to pay in Argentina using only their Brazilian digital wallets, without the need to carry cash.
To implement the service, Banco Patagonia, COELSA, and Banco do Brasil developed a joint payment scheme that integrates their platforms and complies with the regulations in force in both countries, in addition to applying security standards to ensure the system's proper functioning.
The president of Banco Patagonia, Oswaldo Parre, highlighted that the initiative aims to strengthen regional integration and facilitate the spending of foreign visitors in the country.
"We are convinced that innovation must be at the service of people and their well-being," he stated.
